Tri-Luma® Cream (fluocinolone acetonide 0.01%, hydroquinone 4%, tretinoin 0.05%) is a prescription, short-term (up to 8 weeks) treatment for moderate-to-severe facial melasma. It lightens dark spots by reducing melanin, promoting skin turnover, and decreasing inflammation. Common side effects include irritation, redness, burning, and peeling.
Key Considerations
- Application: Apply a thin layer to affected areas at night, extending 1/2 inch beyond lesions.
- Safety Measures: Strict sun avoidance is necessary; use sunscreen (SPF 30+) and protective clothing during the day.
- Precautions: Do not use if pregnant, nursing, or trying to conceive. Avoid in patients with sulfite allergies.
